New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Academic) Level 3

Overview

To meet the requirements of the New Zealand Certificate (1882). The new English Language unit standards will be used, and not the ESOL unit standards. There are no optional units in the proposed delivery structure.

Aim

This qualification is intended for learners of English as an additional language, attending NZQA approved programmes delivered in Aotearoa New Zealand or off-shore. This qualification allows Aotearoa New Zealand community, employers and educational institutions to recognise the level at which the graduate can use English for general, workplace, or academic purposes. For NITT, the qualifier is Academic.

Duration

New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Academic) Level 3

Summary

Graduates will have the language skills required to communicate in most situations with some independence and fluency in order to participate in everyday/social/community, workplace and/ or academic English language contexts. This qualification is at a level comparable to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) B1.

To meet the requirements of the New Zealand Certificate (1882). The new English Language unit standards will be used, and not the ESOL unit standards. There are no optional units in the proposed delivery structure. The programme has been structured to include twelve papers, all of which must be undertaken to gain the qualification. All papers are of equal value and each has a five credit value. Please refer to the attached NITT NZCEL level 3 programme document for the programme contents and the proposed delivery structure.
